As April is National Pet Month we were looking for you to create a special poem about pets: your pet, pet habits, a dream pet, unusual pets, what it’s like having a pet… anything that inspires you about our furry, feathered or scaly friends we wanted to hear.
Congratulations to the winner of £25 and a copy of Perfect Pets...

Gus is short for disgusting; an ebullient sort of a cat whose ears are tattered and the silence is shattered by his spit and his hiss and his spat. He's a sort of virulent ginger with whiskers that straggle and spike in a very bohemian manner that not many other cats like. He has a peculiar hobby of extending an inquisitive paw and fishing in the mouth of his owner to locate the source of a snore. On days when the weather is sunny he will lie by the door in a heap with one suspicious eye open and dare you to disturb his sleep. All beds are his for the choosing and if you should dare to complain that it's time for changing the linen he'll ignore you and snuggle again deep down in his luxurious fashion and from that incredible chest will come antedeluvian rumbles with a typical volcanic zest. But one thing can totally baffle this strombolian and cause him to wail it's the latest arrival, a kitten, who loves to ambush his tail. Gus will stare at this lilliputian, extend an uncertain paw then roll over like some sagging cushion and let the mite struggle some more over the mountainous body that begs to be explored. I'm afraid the boss of our household is also a bit of a fraud. For when we look in each evening at this territorial disgrace he is lying at a peculiar angle with the kitten asleep on his face.
Forward Poetry's ethos has always been to act as a bridge to publication rather than a barrier. This, along with our passion for poetry and creative writing, has seen a humble family business evolve into the biggest publisher of new poetry in the world. We understand that poetry is subjective, that everyone writes in a different style and that what one person can love, another can hate! Our collections showcase a variety of themes, writing styles and poets from all walks of life. They are carefully edited and compiled to celebrate and complement the craft that all of our contributors enjoy poetry.
