Inspirational Idol - Winner

Inspirational Idols
What does being an idol really mean? We invited you to write about what idols mean to you. Maybe there is an idol in your life that inspires you in some way or you’ve got something to say about what an idol is or should be.

Congratulations to the winner of £25 and a copy of Inspirational Idols...

Moll

Moll is blind:
She thinks the word unkind
Desultory and absurd;
She 'sees' with the keenest of ears
With her sense of taste and receptive nose.
Familiar with the fertile earth
Around her ten searching toes.
Moll moves in shadows and silhouettes
In shimmering folds of shade;
She has a mastery of consciousness
Even when the purple falls as light begins to fade.
Silence is her symphony of philharmonic sound
She hears every movement played in the air or on the ground:
And tricks her imagination with surreal inspiration
Until her mind becomes an atomic burst of colour
Shaping her dreams on the anvil of night
Drawing them into submission
Until all is how it should be
And nothing is all that it seems.
Her eyes, she says, are her diamonds
Cut to catch the subtlety of light;
Rocks of ice yet still alive
Despite their trammelled sight.
Set to accentuate her face with bijoux cut precision
To perfection ground and honed;
A brace of gems more precious
Than Rockefeller ever owned.
She can hear the green of growing grass
The crystalline white of a cascade of snow;
The honey'd ebb of sunset to the dark horizon far below.
She divines the musk of the change to rain
She can touch a wound and feel the pain.
Yet when the rara avis flies,
When she needs a pair of seeing eyes,
She will ask to borrow mine.
'Of course,' I say. 'No problem; always a pleasure, Moll.'
She hooks my voice with a baited stare,
The one that always lands my heart,
And whispers over beaming lips,
'You know: you are my eye-doll!'

Forward Poetry's ethos has always been to act as a bridge to publication rather than a barrier. This, along with our passion for poetry and creative writing, has seen a humble family business evolve into the biggest publisher of new poetry in the world. We understand that poetry is subjective, that everyone writes in a different style and that what one person can love, another can hate! Our collections showcase a variety of themes, writing styles and poets from all walks of life. They are carefully edited and compiled to celebrate and complement the craft that all of our contributors enjoy poetry.
